Management Development and Training Unit (MDTU)

The Management Development Training Unit of the North Western Province is the main institution under the Chief Secretariat that works to enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of officers engaged in the North Western Provincial Public Service.

This Unit operates under the leadership of the Deputy Chief Secretary (Training). Approximately 90% of the training programs are conducted at the Wariyapola Training Institute, which functions as an affiliated branch of the MDTU.

The Unit provides its services under the guidance of staff officers, including the Assistant Chief Secretary (Training) and the Administrative Officer, along with other supporting staff. Approximately 500 training programs are conducted annually.

Services Provided by the MDTU

  • Fulfilling the training needs of all public servants in the North Western Province.
  • Conducting training programs to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of public servants across various sectors.
  • Conducting programs aimed at improving overall performance.
  • Maintaining a dedicated Anti-Drug Abuse Unit.
  • Launching programs to create employment opportunities for the youth.
  • Supporting the state mechanism through the "Clean Sri Lanka" project.
  • Strengthening digital governance by empowering public servants and the community.
  • Providing opportunities for foreign training to officers of the Western Provincial Public Service
